Developer Sloclap has revealed that kung-fu brawler Sifu has slipped from its originally planned 2021 release date into Early 2022, but has released a new gameplay trailer to make up for the delay.

In a post on the PlayStation blog, the studio explained “We still felt earlier this year that we could make our original planned launch date, but as the deadline grew closer, it became clear that we wouldn’t be able to do so without putting the quality of the game at risk or creating huge pressure on the Sloclap team – and neither of these options were acceptable to us.”

To make up for the delay, a new trailer shows off a new night club location for the game, which eventually turns into an underground fight club. We also get to see the game’s unique aging mechanic, where when your character is defeated, they age a few years. Rather than getting weaker, this actually means you become a little bit more experienced and skilled — but of course, you can’t age indefinitely, and if you get too old you’ll die and have to restart the level.

The team are “very confident” that there won’t be any more slips though, so fingers crossed Sifu should launch in the “very first months” of 2022 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. In the meantime, check out the trailer for yourself below.
