Sid Meier’s Starships, a new turn-based strategy title from the mind behind Civilization, will launch for PC, Mac and iPad this spring as a digital download, 2K and developer Firaxis have announced.
Players will control a fleet of starships in a journey across the galaxy, completing missions, protecting planets and building a planetary federation.
“When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth,” Meier said. “What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?”
“My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”
Missions will feature unique maps offering “dynamically generated tactical combat” which aims to increase the game’s replayability.
There will also be some cross-connectivity between Starships and Civ Beyond Earth, which promises to expand and enhance both games.
