It’s been announced that a brand new kart racer is on the way featuring a bunch of your favourite animated movie characters including Shrek in Dreamworks All-Star Kart Racing.
In what reads like a flashback of the late 2010s licensed game boom, the press release for this kart racer promises ‘twenty of the most iconic Dreamworks Animation characters’ behind the wheel, including Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Po from Kung Fu Panda, Boss Baby, Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon and more. Players will get to race around a ton of tracks inspired by the movies too, including The Kingdom of Far, Far Away (Shrek), Bergen Town (Trolls), New York City Zoo (Madagascar) and many more besides.
Power ups will be provided by the Trolls, which players will be tasked with collecting to ride with them to get race-winning advantages, and the aforementioned courses will also include magical switches that can be pulled to change the layout of the courses and find shortcuts. Naturally, players will also get to customise their rides too, with ‘hundreds of customisable parts and accessory combinations’ to collect.
There’ll be a bunch of game modes including Free Race, Cups, Challenges and Time Trial modes, and the game will also support 8 players online and 4 player local split screen for multiplayer action. In addition, the game will also be available in a deluxe edition with Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda and Wolf from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
There’s no release date yet for Dreamworks All-Star Kart Racing, but it’s scheduled to release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC “soon”. It’s been a pretty popular time for Kart racers, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 5 DLC releasing just a few weeks ago.
