VE3D has got its hands on a fact sheet for the yet to be announced Shogun 2: Total War. The game is scheduled for release in 2011 for PC.

The Creative Assembly returns to the series it launched back in 2000, promising the next level of strategy gaming for long-time veterans and newcomers. Based on 10 years of experience in making Total War, Shogun 2 is described as the “perfection of the series” featuring a new artificial intelligence, revolutionary multiplayer modes, brand new campaign map options and epic 3D real-time battles.

Set in the middle of the 16th century in Medieval Japan, the country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. Players take on the role of one Daimyo – the clan leader – and will use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun – the undisputed ruler of Japan.

Players will choose from nine different clans, gaining experience to level up their own character-warlord as well as generals and agents. The single-player campaign can also be enjoyed competitively or cooperatively with a friend. The game will also offer 8-player multiplayer battles, featuring upgradeable avatars, online leaderboards and clans.

Other enhancements to previous Total War titles include a new AI system developed according to Sun Tzu’s principles in the Art of War, improved land and naval battle gameplay and a streamlined user interface.

Expect much more on the game at E3.
