Development of Shenmue online has been a little topsy-turvy, but publisher SEGA and developer JC Entertainment seem to have overcome their spat and the title looks to be back on track. Series creator Yu Suzuki introduced a trailer for the game at the recent China Joy 2006 convention, revealing some new information about the anticipated title.

Japanese website 4Gamers has posted the new video, and, at over six minutes long, it provides quite a bit of information. It appears that the game’s class system will be divided into intermediate and advanced specialisations, with two intermediate and three advanced available to each class.

There’s also going to be lots of quests to play through – 150 of which will be available in an open beta test. The video also shows some mini-games, such as pottery and darts, although they are only shown in stills. A lot of the video is filled with battle sequences, showing some of the 1000 combat actions that will be present in the beta. Onlookers were also given a glimpse at game locations, including rural towns and massive modern cities.

There was no announcement regarding release dates or any indication of how close the game is to completion, but we’ll keep you updated.
