The Shenmue III Kickstarter and Slacker Backer campaigns have helped the project raise seven million dollars, developer Ys Net has announced.

As a result of the new milestone, Shenmue III will now see an expanded battle system introduced as well as the Toy Capsule Box Set.

Shenmue III's initial Kickstarter launched in June 2015 at Sony's E3 presser, and closed with $6.3 million raised.

The new battle system additions basically give you a chance to unleash 'the perfect technique' in relation to your opponent's distance and position. Essentially, it's for players who aren't used to scrapping it out in their games.

As for the Toy Capsule Box Set, this includes Ryo, Shenhau, Chai, and a Forklift via Fangamer, and can be used as an add-on or upgrade to your order if you've previously contributed to Shenmue III's Kickstarter.

Shenmue III is due out on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2019, and sees teenage martial artist and sailor-searcher Ryo Hazuki continuing his quest for revenge in China.

The game has been delayed a few times already, with creator Yu Suzuki originally planning to ship the sequel in December 2017.

Sega will re-release Shenmue I & II on PS4, PC, and Xbox One in late August.
