Shenmue 3's Kickstarter closed over the weekend having raised a video game record total of $6,333,296 from 69,320 backers.

The game got off to a record-setting pace following its announcement during Sony's E3 conference, but struggled to maintain momentum during its subsequent weeks. Thankfully fans rallied around the project and a final 24 hours push saw an additional $947,000 added to the kitty.

All this means Shenmue 3 became the highest funded Kickstarter in the video games category, comfortably overtaking Bloodstained.

Fans now have the agonising wait until winter 2017 when Ys Net aims to launch the game.
