Famitsu publisher Enterbrain has announced (reported by Kotaku) that Nintendo has sold seven million Wii units in Japan since the console launched on December 2, 2006.

While seven million units is without question a great achievement for Nintendo, Kotaku suggests that sales of the console are showing signs of slowing: five million units sold were reported back in January and in May this figure had risen to six million units. It then took until November to shift another million units.

In comparison the PS3 has sold approximately 2.4 million units and the Xbox 360 approximately 750,000 units in Japan.
