At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Sega and Amplitude Studios presented their new game Humankind, a 4X title coming to PC next year.

We knew Sega was revealing something new at Gamescom, but we didn’t expect the stylish announcement its game would receive. In its quirky trailer, a Neanderthal is playing an electronic piano in a steampunk-style satellite orbiting the Earth, and inside the capsule are other symbols of sophistication, like a flower, dice, and books. Photographs of Egyptian, Viking and European cultures are shown, and strangely enough, this is what Humankind is all about.

From the Stone Age to the modern day, players will raise their civilisation and combine with over 60 different historical societies, like the Ancient Egyptians, the Romans, the Vikings, and the Khmers. As the fusion of cultures melt together and time passes, real events and figures will appear with scientific breakthroughs and wonders of the world to discover. In addition, the tactical combat opportunities will be affected by the elevation of the map; a city on a hill will be harder to siege, or hide archer units in the forests as a secret defense.

Humankind will release for PC in 2020. Watch the announcement trailer below.
