The ‘His Dark Materials’ trilogy books by Philip Pullman have sold more than 10 million worldwide and is comprised of The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. The Golden Compass (Northern Lights in the UK) is the first of the trilogy to be made into a motion picture and boasts a budget of $150, plus a cast including Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig (the new James Bond).

The Golden Compass tells the story of a young girl called Lyra who sets out to find her missing friend Roger. Her quest leads her to the icy North where giant armoured bears rule the kingdom, witches fly in the sky and the secret of another universe is waiting to be discovered.
The film is scheduled for release on November 16, 2007, so expect the video game to arrive at around the same time. SEGA has not announced any game specific details or release platforms at this time.
