Sega’s new initiative to launch a ton of their old games on mobile, Sega Forever, launched with five games last week and the reception from fans hasn’t exactly been glowing on the iOS App Store.

Sega Networks chief marketing officer Mike Evans spoke to Eurogamer, and said ‘The launch itself has been really positive – if you look at the vast majority of feedback it’s been strong, if you look at ratings on the app store from consumers there’s definitely some very good sentiment as well.’

Evans does recognise that some people have had issues with these ports, however, stating that the developers are aware Phantasy Star needs some work, and that some people who paid the £2 to disable ads on Sonic The Hedgehog were still seeing them appear in-game.

‘Is there room for improvement like anything? Yeah there is. It’s a very ambitious project, and it’s taken a long time to get to this point. We’ve got lots of things planned as we go through, and we’re going to keep on working on that quality. For the vast majority of our fans it’s solid, but the specialist guys who are looking for the absolute epitome of quality, we’re going to keep improving for those guys.’

Smartphone users can download free versions of these retro titles, but have to pay £1.99 per game if they want to disable ads. Most of the reviews don’t have an issue with that. Most of the reviews mention glitches, freezing and crashing. Hopefully Sega can iron out the kinks sooner rather than later.
