Sega has announced a line of games in the Total War series, under the new title Total War Saga. Developed by Creative Assembly, these standalone games will focus on particular moments in history rather than whole eras, but won’t be smaller in scope or shorter than the mainline Total War franchise.

Total War Saga’s game director, Jack Lusted expanded on this in an interview on the Total War blog. ‘We don’t mean short Total War games,” he states. “They’ll have a narrower focus, but they will still be the epic sandboxes players are familiar with’. Lusted explained that in the creation of these spin-offs Creative Assembly is aiming for scope similar to that of Fall of The Samurai, the successful standalone follow up to Shogun II.

If you were fond of the standalone additions to the previous Total War games, such as Shogun II or Rome II, it seems that the first Total War Saga could be right up your alley. Lusted gave away some hints on what the game will be like, saying,, ‘I can say that it’s another spiritual follow-up to Total War: ROME II, like Total War: Attila, and moves the time period forward in much the same way’. So pretty much more of the same thing, now with the opportunity to further explore the history of that time period.

Whilst there are no more details on specific release dates, the team will be sharing more information as the game progresses.
