Video game developer TimeGate Studios announced today it has reached a settlement with Paramount Digital Entertainment and Paramount Pictures regarding a trademark infringement dispute over Section 8.

The lawsuit, filed by TimeGate, alleged that Paramount’s use of Section 8 as the name of its upcoming interactive web series amounted to trademark infringement based on TimeGate’s prior rights to the name.

TimeGate has now agreed to dismiss the lawsuit having received confirmation from Paramount that it will not use the name Section 8 in conjunction with its interactive web series.

Section 8 is a sci-fi first-person shooter that promises players unprecedented strategic control over the battlefield, employing tactical assets and on-demand vehicle deliveries to dynamically alter the flow of combat.

Developed by TimeGate Studios, Section 8 is published worldwide by Southpeak Games and scheduled for release in late 2009 for PC and next-gen console platforms.
