Online pirate adventure Sea of Thieves will be getting a scale test just in time for the weekend, developer Rare has announced. Apparently, the studio decided on this as it wants to test out all the work they’ve done since the closed beta, plus set a new concurrent record in the process.

Sea of Thieves’ scale test sets sail on February 16 at 10.00am GMT and arrives back in port on February 18 at 10.00am GMT. If you had access to the original beta then you’ll be able to get in on the action no problem.

Rare was quick to note that participants may experience connectivity issues, problems with the in-game shop, and interruptions during the scale test as the developer works to stomp on any lingering bugs.

As for what’s on offer, Sea of Thieves players can enjoy the same content seen in the closed beta. Rare explained that it will ‘purposefully be a similar feature set … restricted to the Gold Hoarders trading company and accompanying Voyages,’ so that the studio can ‘drive scale and test issues at a high scale of player concurrency.’

Finally, Rare confirmed that it does plan on running another beta at some point closer to the game’s launch on March 20 for PC and Xbox One. Two things you shouldn’t expect however, are DLC based on Pirates of the Caribbean and loot crates.
