Pirate booty-’em-up Sea of Thieves has had its closed beta extended by two days, developer Rare announced on the game’s official website. The move comes after a number of reports flooded in from gamers who have been unable to access the seafaring teaser.

Some players who pre-ordered the digital version of Sea of Thieves have received a ‘too early’ message preventing them from joining in the online plundering. While an update has now been rolled out, the studio notes that it has been taking longer than anticipated to reach all those affected by the issue.

As a result of these niggles Rare has now confirmed that the beta will wrap up at 8.00am GMT on January 31. In addition, the Design an Achievement Contest has also been extended to reflect this.

‘We know your gaming hours are precious and our number one goal is to get everyone with Closed Beta access into the game as soon as possible,’ said Rare.

Sea of Thieves is due for release on PC and Xbox One on March 20.Â
