Universal Pictures has announced that they plan to produce a movie based on the cult classic PC platformer, American McGee’s Alice.
Hollywood news site Variety is reporting that Sarah Michelle Gellar has signed up to star in the lead role. Those worried about the dark themed game becoming a kid friendly film will be pleased to hear that Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003) is set to direct.
The movie is said to follow the game’s storyline very closely. Several years after Alice has returned from Wonderland her parents are killed in a fire and Alice is sent to a mental asylum. In an altered state Alice finds herself in wonderland yet again, but this time it’s not such a happy place.
The film is still some way off, as filming cannot begin until Gellar finishes work on her current movie, ‘The Girls’ Guide To Hunting and Fishing’. Alice is the latest in a number of game franchises slated to hit the big screen, which include Doom, Hitman, Halo and Silent Hill.
