AC Adapters manufactured between August 2004 and December 2004, which were supplied with he slimline PlayStation 2 models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004 may overheat, and in some cases melt. It is also likely that units sold after December 2004 will contain the faulty AC Adapters.
In order to protect their customers Sony has taken the decision to recall all affected AC Adapters in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia. To check if your PS2 is affected log onto www.ps2ac.com where you can find guides to identify your PS2 and helpline numbers. The product recall alert will also be appearing in national newspapers from Wednesday 14th September.
All replacements are free and Sony will also supply a prepaid envelope in which you should return your faulty AC Adapter. Those customers with affected AC Adapters are advised to unplug the PlayStation 2 from the mains and wait until a replacement AC Adapter arrives before commencing play again.
