The launch of the RTX 4060 Ti has had a pretty mixed reaction. Reviews have been fairly inconsistent – with many suggesting you should not buy the card, while others sung praise for its 1080p gaming performance. However – what could have been a disastrous launch for Nvidia may have just been saved by an even worse reception to the RX 7600.
Reviews for the RX 7600 came in at 2PM BST today which kicked off a largely negative reaction to AMD Radeon’s latest hardware release. Despite some suggesting it’s hit the ‘sweet spot’ in terms of pricing, the lack of performance upgrades over the previous generation are still a huge issue.
The benchmarks across reviews have found that the card hasn’t really improved over the RX 6650 XT, despite costing more, while the 8GB of VRAM has also been criticised much alike the RTX 4060 Ti’s memory was.
The community reaction is categorised by a single word: laughable, which has been thrown around liberally across Reddit and Twitter in response to the RX 7600’s hardware ‘upgrades.’ Reddit user /u/rogoth7 commented in response to Gamers Nexus’ review that “AMD [are] doing more to sell Nvidia cards than Nvidia ever could,” while others have theorised a more nefarious plot:
“AMD and Nvidia just promoting their 6000 and 3000 series at this point,” writes one commenter, while another responds with “selling their old stock at high prices as well as their new stock at even higher prices. Win-win.” Whatever the reality is – Nvidia and AMD have a duopoly over the graphics card market, and the consumers are suffering from unfair pricing attached to products with unconvincing performance.
The RX 7600’s performance is leaving a lot to be desired, and it seems that the lack of improvement over recent generations is edging people closer to forking out the $130 difference for the RTX 4060 Ti, which despite it’s high pricing, still offers competitive performance.
Gamers Nexus’ review suggests to wait until July before making a decision, though a smarmy commenter from the aforementioned Reddit thread might have a better idea:
“F*** it, I’ll make my own graphics cards.”
