Multiplayer sandbox survival game Rust has sold almost 12 and a half million copies since launch, developer Facepunch has revealed.

The team announced the number recapping the past year in its latest blog post. The studio called 2021 an “exceptional year in almost all regards” following the eight years since the game’s original early access launch. This included an explosion of popularity on Twitch, and the release of the game’s console edition in May.

According to the stats it revealed at the end of the post, the game now boasts 12,481,079 copies sold. There’s been a peak of 32,871 servers online and 267,211 concurrent in-game players. On Twitch, the game has apparently enjoyed an audience of 1.37 million viewers, clocking up over 300M hours in 1.3 billion views.

Facepunch don’t plan to sleep on this success, promising more updates in 2022. These include the addition of a new arctic monument, new weapons, vehicles and new animals including polar bears. The team also intend to release a heap of quality of life changes by February of 2022.
