Jagex, the firm behind popular free-to-play MMOs RuneScape and 8Realms, is now officially owned by a US company.

While previously a staple in the list of UK-grown game development, ownership of Jagex changed hands to US venture capital firm Insight Venture Partners, which now owns 55 per cent of the developer.

Previously Insight had just 35 per cent interest in Jagex, Develop reports.

The studio will remain in Cambridge while the controlling firm is in New York City.

Jagex is currently working on Transformers Universe, a Transformers-based MMO that lets users play in co-op teams.
