Atari appears to have dropped Pipeworks Software as the developer of RollerCoaster Tycoon World, replacing it with Seattle-based mobile and PC developer Area 52 Games.

In an update on the game’s official website, Atari explained that it was “thrilled to announce we are partnering with Area 52 Games studio, a AAA production house on the next phase of development for RollerCoaster Tycoon World.

“Specializing in online PC gaming experiences, the Area 52 Games studio has brought together a team of veterans who have worked on major IPs across simulation and strategy genres, including Tropico, the Sims series, the Railroad Tycoon series, the original Pirates, Age of Empires, Forza and other well-known games.”

The publisher thanked Pipeworks “for all their efforts in getting us to this point in the development of the game.”

Reference to Pipeworks’ has been removed from the website, too, with the developer’s logo replaced with that of Area 52.

Atari has yet to explain its decision to replace Pipeworks with Area 52 or whether the shift to a new developer has affected the game’s early 2015 release date.
