RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D will be released for Nintendo 3DS in 2012, Atari has announced.

12 years after its debut and with over 11 million units sold, RollerCoaster Tycoon is coming to handhelds for the first time, and in 3D to boot.

“RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D marks the return of one of the most popular game franchises and delivers an innovative, robust and unrestricted theme park simulator to the next generation of Tycoon fans,” said Jim Wilson, CEO of Atari.

Players will have access to all the features which have made the series so popular, including a coaster construction system and theme park customisation tools. A touchscreen toolset provides a wide array of upgrade possibilities and themes.

The 3DS game also comes with a new Coaster Story gameplay mode, which blends together tutorials and park challenges into a narrative driven experience. Choose your own player character and expand your roller coaster empire around the world.

For those who wish to jump straight into the action a Park Sandbox mode is available, where players are free to create however they wish.
