Rockstar will gift all GTA Online players with $500,000 worth of in-game cash as compensation for the problems the game has faced since launch.

In order to receive the money, players must play or have played GTA Online at any time during October and download a forthcoming title update. Two deposits of $250,000 will then be posted into players accounts over the course of the month; one by the end of next week and the other by the end of the month.

By the sounds of things, however, Rockstar will not be able to recover any previously lost characters or progress.

“For players who experienced cloud server errors, connection issues, and lost game progress and characters in these first days of GTA Online, we hope this GTA$ helps to facilitate a fresh start or makes your continued life in Los Santos and Blaine County extra sweet,” Rockstar said in an update provided to VideoGamer.com.

GTA Online has suffered from a host of technical issues following its launch on October 1, including issues causing players to lose characters and the inability to progress beyond the opening tutorial missions.

Both issues are thought to have been fixed in recent title updates.
