A three-part original Max Payne 3 comic series created in partnership between Rockstar Games and Marvel Custom Solutions will be released in the next few weeks, Rockstar has announced.

The comic series has been written by Dan Houser and Remedy’s Sam Lake, and features cover art from Greg Horn, with pencils/inks by Fernando Blanco.

To be released as a digital graphic novel and in limited print editions, the comic series will delve into Max’s troubled past, exploring the events that occurred in and around both Max Payne and Max Payne 2, leading up to the third game and also shedding light on Max’s early years.

Issue #1: After the Fall will be released in the next few weeks for free via the Rockstar Newswire, the Max Payne 3 official website and additional digital comic channels.

Max Payne 3 is out May 18 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version will follow a few weeks later with DirectX 11 support and 3D visuals.

Pre-order Max Payne 3 from select retailers by April 15 and you’ll receive early access to the Pill Bottle Loadout Item – a multiplayer loadout item which allows you to carry more health-reviving painkillers as you fight.

Participating retailers: HMV | Play.com | GameStop | Zavvi
