Rock Band Blitz, a new downloadable game in the multi-million selling series, has been announced for release on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PSN.

Developed by Harmonix, the new game is a departure from the simulation experience offered by the regular games, instead focussing on fast-paced arcade action using a standard game controller. Primarily a single-player experience, there are four instrument lanes to switch between.

The downloadable game will include over 20 tracks – fully transferable to Rock Band 3 – and is also fully supportive of the Rock Band DLC, meaning the entire DLC library can be used in Blitz.

Confirmed tracks:

  • Foster the People – “Pumped Up Kicks”
  • Rick Springfield – “Jesse’s Girl”
  • blink-182 – “Always”
  • Quiet Riot – “Metal Health (Bang Your Head)”

Rock Band Blitz is scheduled for release this summer.

Given the lack of instrument support, Blitz looks a lot like Rock Band Unplugged on PSP, which isn’t a bad thing.
