MTV Games has announced double platinum success for Rock Band downloadable content, with gamers purchasing more than 2.5 million songs/game levels since the game launched in the US on November 20, 2007.

“Our goal with Rock Band was to create an entirely new way for people to interact with the music they love,” stated Van Toffler, president, MTVN Music Group/Logo/Films. “The incredible response to the downloadable content we’ve released to date motivates us even more to establish this platform as a way for people to discover new, up and coming artists through the game – in addition to delivering great game play experiences set to the music of mega-artists.”

The top-selling music download is the Metallica pack, featuring three of the band’s tracks. Also selling well are song packs from The Police, Queens of the Stone Age, David Bowie and Black Sabbath covers.

The most downloaded singles include Foreigner’s “Juke Box Hero, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son,” Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” and a cover of The Knack’s hit, “My Sharona.”

Rock Band is expected for release across Europe on PS3 and Xbox 360 in March, having hit retail in North America late in 2007.
