Harmonix and MTV Games, along with EA, have announced that Rock Band is to be released for Wii in the US and Canada on June 22, 2008. There’s currently no word on a European release, but we’re also still waiting for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2 versions to hit stores over here.
The game is to be released in a bundle containing the game, drums, microphone and wireless guitar, priced $169.99. Standalone instruments will also be available from day one. Unlike the Guitar Hero guitar controller which is essentially a shell which the Wii Remote slots into, the Rock Band peripherals will be completely independent.
The game will ship with 63 songs, including five bonus songs for Wii gamers, but the Wii game does have some fairly major omissions: no online play and no downloadable content.
“The feature-set is a lot closer to the PS2 version of Rock Band which was also developed by Pi Studios,” said a Harmonix spokesperson. “We’ve decided to focus on getting the core gameplay on to the Wii and focus on making that awesome.”
We hope to get confirmation of a European release shortly.
