Roblox has grown from a simple game platform to a large virtual ecosystem, attracting millions with its immersive experiences. The platform has nearly 80 million daily active users, many of whom engage in a wide range of user-generated games, from survival experiences like A Dusty Trip to soccer-inspired RPGs like Blue Lock Rivals.

The secret to Roblox’s attractiveness is its ability to combine creativity and interactivity—players don’t just play; they live in these digital worlds, developing friendships, completing missions, and even creating their own tales. Titles like Fisch, with its customizable fishing rods and uncommon catches, and The Hunt: Mega Edition, with its token-driven challenges, demonstrate how thoroughly players can immerse themselves in the experience, frequently spending hours improving their skills or pursuing elusive rewards.

However, the inclusion of in-game ads has hampered immersion. Ads, which were formerly unobtrusive, have become more visible, appearing in-game or cluttering menus, much to the disgust of the community. To add more fuel to the fire, Roblox is shifting to a new strategy with reward-based advertising that aims to offer gamers rewards for engaging with advertising, such as special skins or in-game currency.

Latest Roblox roadmap reveals reward-based ads system coming soon to games

According to the future of Roblox roadmap, the company has decided to introduce a new rewards system where players will be able to unlock freebies in a game by watching video ads as any other game. While this feature is used aggressively in clickbait mobile games, players are concerned about the immersion and quality of their games.

Rather than a pop-up in the middle of the game, this ad will function more like a “click here to watch an ad for a reward” style of format. One player wrote, “Not gonna lie, I worry this is gonna make Roblox full of those cheap mobile games that spam you with ads 24/7.”

Another chimed in, “The only games this will ruin are those who won’t allow you to continue without watching an ad.” A third user agreed and said, “Okay this is a HORRID idea, games are gonna have ‘watch 100 ads to get a reward’.”

Developers make money by incorporating ads into their games, providing continual updates, and offering free-to-play models. Meanwhile, players gain important incentives without spending real money, which improves their gaming experience. This ad approach is popular with younger audiences and thrives in Roblox’s huge, creative ecology. However, it demands balance as too many adverts can interrupt immersion, and well-implemented rewards can still keep users engaged and happy.
