Namco has announced that Ridge Racer 6 will be online for the first time in the series’ history. As well as competitive head to head play over Xbox Live, the game will support downloadable content.
A Worldwide Player Matchmaking system will let players race each other, player records will be uploaded to a persistent Leader Board and ghost data can be downloaded so players can test their skills against the best racers in the world. New content will be made available periodically on the Xbox Live Marketplace, suggesting that these updates won’t be free.
Ridge Racer 6 is due for release at the launch of the Xbox 360 in North America, which is thought to be some time in November. Whether this is a day-one launch title or a launch period title isn’t yet clear.
