Speaking to Pro-G, representatives from both HMV and Gamestation enthused about the likely success of Halo 3, due for release on September 26th this year, and its positive impact on 360 hardware sales.
“It’s a ‘hardware-shifter’ as we like to say in the business, said Tim Ellis, Head of games at HMV, adding: “It’s one of those titles that has the capacity to hook non-core game enthusiasts, and so increase demand for consoles as a result.“
Gamestation Buyer Jennifer Leach explained her company’s perspective: “Halo 3 will be a key driver of Xbox 360 hardware sales both at the launch of the game and throughout the Christmas period where I anticipate continued high attach rates to Xbox 360 hardware.“
Retailer enthusiasm for Halo 3 does not stop at its ability to shift consoles either. When asked how he expected the game to sell, Ellis responded: “Exceptionally well I’d say – Halo is pretty much a brand in its own right now, with its own appeal, and there is a lot of anticipation around this title. We’re already starting to take some customer pre-orders, so the outlook for this release is very positive.“
Leach is equally expectant when it comes to Halo 3 software sales: Given the current anticipation for Halo 3, I think it will become the best selling game of the year.“
