Resident Evil 7 has topped the UK video game chart in a busy week for new releases, reports Chart-Track.

The new first-person take on the Resident Evil franchise recorded the third best week one total for a Resident Evil game, a record currently held by 2009’s Resident Evil 5.

A massive 73 per cent of week one retail Resident Evil 7 sales were on PS4, 25 per cent on Xbox One, and two per cent on PC.

In the UK Resident Evil is Capcom’s most successful franchise, but sits just outside the Top 30 based on physical revenue for games released since 1996. Chart-Track notes that Resident Evil is roughly on par with Crash Bandicoot and Ubisoft’s Just Dance.

GTA 5 had a solid sales week, with numbers up 10 per cent, though falls one spot to Resi.

Square’s Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter takes third, SEGA’s Yakuza 0 arrives in eighth, Bandai Namco’s Tales of Berseria is new at No.14, and Digimon World: Next Order begins chart life at No.24. All four are new releases only available on PS4.

Chart-Track also notes that the newly launched Glacier White PS4 console accounted for a quarter of all PS4 consoles sold over the week.
