Capcom has formally revealed the long rumoured Resident Evil 3 remake with a new trailer during Sony's State of Play broadcast, giving it a release date of April 3 next year.

In case you're not up to speed – Resident Evil 3 takes place 24 hours before and 24 hours after the events of Resident Evil 2, and follows Resi 1 heroine Jill Valentine as she tries to escape Racoon City after the events of the Spencer Mansion, only to find she's got Umbrella's latest biological horror – the Nemesis – hot on her tail.

The announcement also seems to confirm that this is, in fact, the 'single player story mode' that was touted for what was assumed to be the spin-off Project Resistance, which has now been renamed as just 'Resident Evil: Resistance' and will be included in the package with the Resident Evil 3 remake as the online multiplayer offering of the bundle.

Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil: Resistance will launch on April 3 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC – check out the trailer below.
