Capcom has revealed a lengthy gameplay trailer for its upcoming remake of Resident Evil 2, and it's not skimping on the red stuff. There's claret all over the shop, including one sequence where some poor cop gets ripped in half by marauding zombies.

While it may not have been obvious in the initial reveal trailer, Resident Evil 2 eschews the fixed camera angles of the original 1998 version of the game in favour of something more similar to Resident Evil 4.

It's now an over-the-shoulder perspective, which means the camera is behind you and allows for pinpoint targeting. It's a controversial move that some old-timers may find hard to swallow, but there's no denying the game looks absolutely gorgeous.

Pleasingly, Capcom said during the walkthrough that Resident Evil 2 will not be an action game, and is very much adhering to the survival horror template of the original game. Leon and Claire will have their own campaigns, but the A/B scenarios seen in the PlayStation version have been given the boot.

Lots of stuff seems to have been changed and/or added too, with new rooms (there's now a bathroom in the RPD; god knows how the cops managed in the original game) and routes available.

Resident Evil 2 is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 25, 2019.
