Starfield is set to enter early access immently, with millions of gamers set to jump in and eplore Bethesda’s latest galaxy. The game, which is the first new IP from Bethesda Game Studios in more than a decade promises to be the most ambitious RPG ever created. Covering more than 1,000 planets and featuring hours and hours of dialogue and missions, many will be hoping Starfield is worth the wait.
But for those who have followed Bethesda’s work for some time, you’ll remember they were behind a game, which was subsequently cancelled, called The 10th Planet. The game, which started development in 1994 and was set in space, arguably paved the way for Starfield, was due to come out in the 90’s, with a teaser trailer dropping in 1998.
A quick watch of the trailer shows the ambition that Bethesda had at the time – sprawling space ports, frantic dog fights, and – at the time – stunning visuals. It was described at the time by one critic as a hybrid between X-Wing and and Star Fox.
At a time where we are about to embark on arguably the biggest gaming journey many of us have yet experienced, it’s fitting to take a look back at where it all started. Games like The 10th Planet may not have made it to the shelves, but what’s clear is the ambition and vision from Bethesda to create a game like Starfield has always been there.
If you’re looking forward to play the game, make sure to check out when the Starfield review embargo lifts and also when the Starfield early access period kicks off in your region. UNtil next time, spacefarers.
