With the Nintendo Switch 2 specs besting the PlayStation 4 Pro, gamers have been craving a port of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 for the new handheld. As it turns out, Rockstar is reportedly prepping a new version of the game for Nintendo’s shiny new console that will launch alongside Xbox Series and PS5 versions of the game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch 2 port coming soon
According to well-renowned video game leaker Nate the Hate, Rockstar Games’ cinematic western adventure will launch before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. With GTA 6 pushed into next year, the new port will allegedly fill the developer’s holiday period.
The leaker explained that the Red Dead Redemption 2 Nintendo Switch 2 port will release “a few months” after the release of the new handheld. This would put the port in a September or maybe even October release slate.
Additionally, the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is expected to launch alongside a new updated version of the game for the now current-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While RDR2 did receive snazzy updates for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, the game has not been updated to take advantage of the newer consoles like GTA V did.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was already a technical marvel on the last-gen consoles, pushing the machines far beyond what anyone thought possible. With the Nintendo Switch 2 able to power a much better version of Cyberpunk 2077 than the last-gen consoles, Rockstar’s open world game should be phenomenal on the handheld.
Unfortunately, there’s no news on other Rockstar Games titles coming to Nintendo Switch 2. While the existence of a Red Dead 2 port is exciting, there’s no rumbling of a Grand Theft Auto V port, and GTA 6 seems out of the question for the portable device.
