Red Dead Redemption 2 is now the second-biggest entertainment launch of all time, behind only Grand Theft Auto V, developer Rockstar Games has announced.

The critically acclaimed cowboy caper pulled in an eye-watering $725 million globally in its first three days on sale across PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Unsurprisingly, it's also the biggest entertainment launch of 2018 so far, and the most pre-ordered full game on PlayStation Network ever.

If that wasn't enough, Sony revealed that Red Dead 2 also notched up PSN's highest day one full game sales of all time, as well as the biggest first three days full game sales in PSN history.

Rockstar also said that the game achieved the biggest opening weekend in entertainment history, covering the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of release. GTA V launched on a Tuesday, and pulled in one billion in three days, so that's why Red Dead 2 was able to take the weekend crown.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched last Friday, and quickly shot straight to the top of the UK charts. You probably don't need convincing at this point, but just in case you're on fence about picking it up, give Colm's review a good read.

Rockstar will launch the game's multiplayer component, Red Dead Online, next month with a beta.
