Red Dead Redemption 2 will not be receiving single-player DLC anytime soon because Rockstar Games is wholly focused on supporting its multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online (via VG247).
Rockstar Games’ lead online production associate Katie Pica moved a million hearts in mono in an interview with VG247. ‘We’re 100% focused on online right now,’ she said. ‘There’s just so much to do, and we’re just hoping to bring everything that a player can love about single-player into the online world, and fleshed out.’ It’s not a definite ‘no’, but it’s also not a definite ‘yes’.
The latest update to rooting-tooting-cowboy-shooting Red Dead Online introduced Specialist roles to the wilderness: the Bounty Hunter, the Collector, and the Trader. Players will look forward to this approach that Rockstar Games will take supporting Red Dead Redemption 2, and the main campaign is pretty chunky anyhow. The story is about 50 hours long but that total doubles if you’re dedicated to completing the game in its entirety.
The team want to mimic that dedication and detail in the online world as well as the single-player experience. ‘We've said it before, but we all love single-player games, and Red Dead Redemption 2's absolutely massive story and equally massive epilogue are hopefully evidence of that,’ online producer Tarek Hamad added. ‘The team's ambitions for Red Dead Redemption 2 were sky high in every way, and when we are building worlds of that scale, the single-player experience almost always leads the way.’
‘Our ambitions for our online games are just as high, and with Red Dead Online we are continuing to build and expand to match the world we created for Red Dead Redemption 2's story,’ he concluded. So, although it might not be the news that players would like to hear, Rockstar Games is committed to adding and improving to Red Dead Online. Which is quite a good game independent of its core, and there’s still a possibility of DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. Everybody wins. Or something.
