Ubisoft has announced Valiant Hearts: The Great War, the next title from Rayman Legends developer Ubisoft Montpellier due for release on current & next-gen consoles and PC in 2014.

Valiant Hearts is described as a “touching yet comical adventure” inspired by stories from the first World War, and follows the tale of five people and their canine companion through their battles on the Western Front.

Built on the UbiArt Framework engine, Valiant Hearts adopts a similar visual style to Rayman Legends, adopting comic-book style 2D animations and a vast colour palette to create a striking adventure.

The game is expected to be a downloadable title, although exact release dates and platforms have yet to be announced.

“As the WW1 centennial approaches, we felt it was the right time to explore such a unique yet almost forgotten time period in our history,” said Paul Tumelaire, creative director at Ubisoft. “The UbiArt Framework engine helps us to use a strong art direction and great character-driven story-telling to both entertain and engage players emotionally.”

Valiant Hearts is the fourth title to have been developed on Ubisoft’s UbiArt Framework, following Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends and next year’s fantasy RPG Child of Light.
