The game will once again be set in the titular Rainbow Islands where Bub and Bob are under the shadow of an evil record company who is polluting the ecosystem with a constant musical dirge. This is causing the flora to die and the fauna to mutate into enemies. It’s up to Bub and Bob to save the world by taking on the evil record company.
Thanks to the 3D capabilities of the PSP, the game’s environments are being given a major overhaul. The game has been made in 3D, and players will be able to see the game’s block platforms disappearing into the distance. It’s more than an aesthetic change though, with the new visuals opening up a new dimension to the gameplay.
“We’re overjoyed to be updating Rainbow Islands for the PSP,” says Tony Byus, producer for Rainbow Islands Evolution, “We’re passionate about keeping the classic gameplay intact, whilst updating and modernising the design without affecting that essential gameplay. In effect, our goal is to produce what Rainbow Islands could have been if the PSP’s amazing power had been available in 1987.“
Rainbow Islands Evolution is scheduled for release for the PSP early in 2007.
