Xbox chief Phil Spencer has encouraged fans to try Quantum Break before making any âpre-judgementsâ about the gameâs alleged resolution.
Spencerâs comments follow a report by Digital Foundry over the weekend which stated that its tests had led it to believe that the game natively renders at 720p, with HUD elements and menus rendering at 1080p.
âIn every scene tested so far, a native resolution of 720p is the consistent result found in each pixel count test,â the report said, âso while thereâs every possibility of individual render targets operating at higher resolutions, basic geometry that weâre able to measure hands in a 720p result as things stand.â
The report later added, however, that Quantum Breakâs âexcellent anti-aliasingâ works well to disguise the âstair-stepping weâd expect of a lower resolution gameâ.
âAdded to this, image quality appears sharper and noticeably cleaner in more static scenes, where a pixel count suggests something closer to a 900p presentation,â it said. âA temporal reconstruction anti-aliasing solution is a strong contender â a technique where information from previously rendered frames is blended with the current one.â
The report goes on to say that, despite questions over the resolution, the game remains âvisually impressive â stunning in many areasâ.
At the time of the report being posted, Digital Foundry stated that it had yet to receive a response from Remedy regarding the gameâs resolution, nor has Microsoft or the developer seemingly commented on it since.
The news prompted one fan to ask Spencer: âHow is it possible that Quantum Break goes 720P? its [sic] like if you port it from Pc to xbox one. This was supose [sic] to be our exclusiveâ.
Spencer replied: âI encourage you to try a game before you make any pre-judgements about what makes a game good or badâ, later thanking them for their support and saying that he thinks theyâll âenjoy itâ.
