The latest games from the studio that brought us Meteos and Lumines are the PSP title Gunpey-R, and the DS game Oto wo Tsunagou! Gunpey Reverse (Connect the Sounds! Gunpey Reverse). Both titles will be published by Namco Bandai in Japan, and Q Entertainment’s Tetsuya Mizuguchi will act as executive producer on both games.

Both titles are music puzzles games, and are based on the 1999 Wonderswan game Gunpey. In Gunpey players must arrange blocks, each containing a diagonal line, to form a continuous line from the left to the right of the game area. Do well and the blocks will disappear, but failure to clear the blocks will result in a massive pile up and the end of the game.

The PSP version will have a strong focus on music and video, and will feature the same “skin” concept as seen in Lumines. Players collect themes, with each containing its own background, animation, and music. In total more than 40 skin types are promised.

Unsurprisingly the DS will use the touch screen, but other interesting gameplay additions include a sound that is played when a line is made. This allows players to time the clearance of a line with the game’s music to create your own music.

The games are scheduled for release in Japan in the autumn, but as yet there’s been no indication that they’ll make their way to the US and Europe.
