Supergiant Games, the indie developer behind Bastion and Transistor has revealed the launch trailer for Pyre, a party-based RPG which promises to deliver the studio’s biggest campaign yet. Also announced is proper PS4 Pro support, with the game confirmed to be running natively in 4K. So, that’s something else to get excited about.

Creative director Greg Kasavin said ‘If you don’t have a PS4 Pro, no worries, of course…! We think you’ll find the game looks stunning and runs fantastic on your console’, stating that the game will run at 1080p 60 fps on a regular PS4, with only slight frame drops in particularly busy areas. But on PS4 Pro is where the game will really shine, running natively in 4K at 60 fps. Which is brilliant.

Visual fidelity aside, Kasavin says that the game, ‘has more characters in its 90 second running time than you meet over the entire course of our first two games. And, it’s really only scratching the surface’. There’s no Game Over screen either, the story continuing unabated  however successful or unsuccessful your adventure may be.

Pyre is an action RPG, where the player takes control of an exile who teams up with other exiles on a journey to purgatory, hoping to cleanse the taint on their souls by defeating other exiles. Your actions determine who will return to glory, and who remains in exile to the end of their days. The story is told through narration, with a hyperlink-type system which provides even more exposition on the story, should you wish to delve deeper into the lore.

Pyre will be released on July 25 for PS4 and PC. If you pre-order the game and are a PS Plus member, you will be also able to take advantage of a 10% discount.
