In a recent in-depth video from Noclip, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene talked about modding tools, and said that he wants to make modding accessible for more people.
‘I want to give modding tools to people who have never modded before, and, like, with our custom games it’s modding via UI so it’s very simple to do, and I want that ability for people who have never tried modding,’ said Greene.
He went on to talk about how modding can be intimidating when you first approach it: ‘I always found it – even with Unreal Engine, you know, you download and open it up and it’s like “Where the f*** do I start?” It’s like “I know this can make great games, but how do I start doing that?”‘
With PUBG’s custom game options, players can create their own parameters for games and change up PUBG’s increasingly popular Battle Royale formula. Greene hopes that PUGB will give players ‘who have never thought about modding before an opportunity to create a spin on a game mode just based on what they think of.’
Greene started out modding the Battle Royale game style into DayZ, which is itself a mod of ARMA 2, so we’re getting into stacking matryoshka doll’s of modding here. PUBG, meanwhile, continues to be as popular as ever despite only being in early access. A full PC release for the game is planned for next month, as well as a release onto the Xbox Game Preview service.
