Kotaku reports that since its launch on December 12, 2004 the PSP has sold over 10 million units in Japan. Compared to the Nintendo DS which has shifted well over 20 million units the PSP doesn’t appear a great success, but 10 million units is certainly a figure not to be sniffed at.
The handheld is also in the midst of a resurgence, helped by recent releases Monster Hunter 2nd G and Phantasy Star Portable.
The aforementioned Monster Hunter 2nd G is the handheld’s biggest selling, moving 2.396 million units since its March 27, 2008 release. Monster Hunter 2nd is the second-biggest seller at 1.7 million units, followed by Crisis Core (790,000 units), Monster Hunter Portable (668,000 units) and Phantasy Star Portable (545,000 units).
