Since its launch, Marvel Rivals has enthralled fans with explosive 6v6 fights and iconic Marvel characters. However, a growing issue is jeopardizing the game’s competitive integrity: smurfing. Smurfing, which involves high-skilled players creating new accounts to dominate lower-ranked lobbies, has increased in Marvel Rivals’ ranked mode.
According to reports, Bronze and Silver matches are becoming increasingly crowded with smurfs, who are frequently Grandmaster or Celestial-ranked players taking advantage of the game’s lack of placement matches and ease of account creation. This disparity has made competitive play a frightening task for less experienced players, in which level 10-15 accounts win 90% of the time, killing their opponents.
Streamers worsening the problem with Unranked to Grandmaster challenges have sparked outrage among the community, since their content frequently mocks lower-ranked players, further tarnishing the experience. NetEase has now responded to the community’s outrage by admitting smurfing as a major issue and releasing a new method to combat smurfing.
You can now report players for Smurfing in Marvel Rivals matches
NetEase Games has finally added Smurfing as an option under the Report Player menu in the game. This means if you suspect a player, either on your team or the enemy team, smurfing in the game, you can report them directly, which can eventually lead to a ban or suspension on their account.
Follow these steps to report a player for smurfing in Marvel Rivals and help ensure fair gameplay. From the main menu, select the Friends symbol in the top-right corner. Enter the suspected smurfer’s username and look for their profile. Right-click their name and choose Report Player. Then select Negative Behavior from the menu, and then Smurfing as the precise cause.
Alternatively, during a match, press Tab to view the lobby, then click the player’s name and pick Report from the pop-up menu, just like you would to flag smurfing. For previous matches, go to your profile, choose the History tab, then open the match summary and report from there. If requested, provide details, but refrain from abusing the system to avoid bogus reports. This feature intends to reduce smurfing, however, NetEase’s enforcement process is unknown.
