Among the most prized cosmetic items in Marvel Rivals, are the Lord Icons which are prestigious avatars that transform a hero’s standard icon into a colorful, lightning-crackled masterwork, indicating mastery over a character. These emblems, which appear during hero choosing and on in-game scoreboards, have become a badge of honor, motivating fans to grind ceaselessly across the multiverse.
From Spider-Man’s web-slinging flair to the Hulk’s gamma-charged might, each Lord Icon shows a player’s passion, with over 30 distinct designs related to the current team. Unlocking them requires players to max out a hero’s Proficiency track, moving through ranks—Agent, Knight, Captain, Centurion, and finally Lord—by completing recurring tasks.
These range from completing 60 minutes of playtime to doing ability-specific feats, such as freezing enemies with Luna Snow’s Absolute Zero. Along with symbols, players collect sprays and K.O. animations, making the grind both lucrative and challenging. As Season 1: Eternal Night Falls progresses, the competition to obtain these emblems heats up, with new heroes like Human Torch joining the fray. However, if you’re still trying to unlock a Lord icon, there’s one mistake you’re making that you need to stop.
Marvel Rivals players need to grind characters instead of shuffling heroes to become Lord
Marvel Rivals players are taking to subreddits and social media to discuss their strategies to unlock Lord icons faster and are also disclosing the time they’ve spent on the game. Some have said they’ve spent over 100 hours and haven’t unlocked a single Lord icon while others managed to unlock half of the game’s Lord icons in just 50 hours.

The key – stick to one character until you unlock Lord and then move on to another hero. Now since we know counter-picking is a viable strategy in climbing ranks in the game’s competitive modes, experienced Lord grinders have suggested that until you unlock a Lord icon for one character, do not switch to another one even if you’ve got to tolerate it.
If you fear some other teammate choosing the character you’re grinding Lord for, then insta-lock your character in the beginning of each round. However, we do not advise that strategy for Competitive matches as you may just jeopardize your team by not forming a strategy for a selfish desire.
Rather play Quick Match, Clone Rumble, Doom Match, and Practice vs. AI games to complete proficiency tasks that are outlined for your chosen character. Once you’ve got that down, then grind your way to the top and flex that Lord icon in Marvel Rivals lobbies you enter.
