Microsoft is causing issues for Xbox game developers, resulting in more PS5 games launching before their rival console even has a release date.

Over the past few months, multiple indie devs have cited issues with Microsoft communication resulting in huge delays for the Xbox platform. On the other hand, the developers are able to release titles on PlayStation without issue.

Why are PS5 games launching before Xbox?

Jyamma Games’ new Dark Souls-inspired action RPG Enotria: The Last Song was scheduled to release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles simultaneously. However, the developer recently revealed the game will be launching on PC and PlayStation first with an Xbox launch sometime in the future.

Despite having a build ready for Xbox gamers to play, Jyamma Games has been forced to delay its Series X and S release due to Microsoft’s lack of communication.

When announcing an indefinite delay of the game, Xbox fans immediately accused the developer of being in Sony’s pocket.

“The only thing Sony did was work with us on getting the game ready on their platform,” the developer told gamers. “Microsoft, on the other hand, is taking 2 months to reply to our submission when we have the game practically ready for both Series S and X.”

A bad trend

Unfortunately, this has become a running trend for games other than AAA titles on Xbox. Recently, Indie platformer HAAK — which is available on other platforms — announced a full cancellation of its Xbox release.

Again, the developer cited Microsoft communication and bugs within its Product Centre, which allows developers to submit their games.

“In reality, porting the Xbox version of our game would have taken less than two weeks,” the developer said. “But we spend over 14 months trying to “apply for game publication” and ’complete Microsoft Partner identity registration’. This experience has been terrible because we can feel the enthusiasm from the Xbox community.”

As it stands, something unsettling seems to be happening behind the scenes at Xbox. With major exclusives becoming PS5 games months after launch and indie games unable to release on the platform, Xbox gamers are being left in the mud without any clear reason why.
