A major new PS4 system software update introducing a tonne of new features is scheduled to roll out later today, Sony has announced.

Arriving with system update 4.0 is a brand new UI, featuring a refreshed home screen, slicker notifications and an expanded What’s New Activity Feed. There have also been changes made to the Quick Menu (you know, the menu that pops up when you hold the PlayStation button), supposedly making it easier to check out who’s online, adjust audio levels and play music through Spotify without needing to open the app.

There are some slight changes to user profiles, too, which you’re now able to personalise with a cover image from your screenshots library. Communities have been given a refresh as well, with the size limit increased to 100,000 people, and with the option to reply directly to comments or share screenshots directly via the Share menu.

The Library’s been tweaked as well, allowing you to quickly see what’s currently installed on your console or view your entire purchase history.

Ps4 4.0 folders

One of the most anticipated new features of 4.0, however, is the option to create Folders, allowing you to better organise your games and apps on the home screen. I’m probably going to be sorting mine into folders of completed games and those I’ve yet to finish, although you might also want to consider making separate folders for your physical and digital games.

Other new features include support for High Dynamic Range across all PS4 consoles, the option to transfer data to a new PS4 via Ethernet, the ability to upload 140 second videos to Twitter, offline trophy browsing and more.

Sadly, you still can’t change your PSN ID or use external hard drives.
