The PS4’s DualShock 4 has been built with the first-person shooter in mind and won’t repeat the failings of earlier PlayStation controllers, PS4 architect Mark Cerny has told Stuff.

“Historically we have heard many times that our controllers have not been ideal for first-person shooters,” said Cerny, “so we wanted to make sure we had something that would be much better for that genre.

“We tested the throw of the triggers, the position of the triggers, how much pressure it takes. We looked at the joysticks, the dead spot, we looked at convexity and concavity.”

All this, Cerny says, resulted in the creation of a controller that “feels extraordinarily natural”.

“I haven’t heard a negative comment about it yet,” Cerny concluded.

And VideoGamer.com’s Steve Burns would have to agree: The DualShock 4 is pretty darn good, he says.

The PS4 is set to launch this holiday season priced £349.

Has the divisive DualShock controller put you off buying a PS3, and does the prospect of a much improved pad make the PS4 a much more tempting console?
