While our US friends have been enjoying a price cut on the PlayStation 3, in Europe Sony has decided to adopt a different approach. The console will still retail for £425 but anyone who buys from July 18 in the UK (August 1 across Europe) will receive two games and two controllers. There’s also no sign of the 80 GB PlayStation 3 in Europe.
“With sell through of over 1.2 million units in the SCEE territories to date, PlayStation 3 has proved to be an instant and huge success“, said David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “The exceptional value of the new Starter Pack will bring the excitement of PlayStation gaming to a much wider audience. Add to this a stellar lineup of software titles for the second half of the year and we are confident that this amazing value Starter Pack will encourage many more keen gamers to join the PlayStation 3 community.“
The two games will be a choice from any two of Sony’s first-party titles: Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Formula One Championship Edition, Genji: Days of the Blade and Ridge Racer 7. It’s believed that consumers won’t be forced to buy set bundles and the titles will be full retail copies in their original cases.
